Boundary Work I
November 5, 2010 in Uncategorized
Martyn Woodard and I recently produced three research posters for both our and our research groups activities, to be exhibited at the Boundary Work I exhibition, curated by Paul Green from the Cork Institute of Technology. These posters were intended to be somewhat ambiguous, purposely eschewing the standard practice of research posters that document the work in a rather linear fashion. The theme of the exhibition is the surveying of work operating between the boundaries of art and science. In terms of my poster, I have explored the difficulties my PhD research has had working in a transdisciplinary manner when in the end a rather linear and rational textual document must be produced. This text might somewhat disguise, or even misrepresent, the emergent and reflexive manner of research that is continuously manoeuvring between disciplines and epistemology; in the case of my research, these being interaction design/hci, inclusive design, gerontology, cognitive science and philosophy of the mind. This is a process that becomes particularly difficult to portray when each the knowledge of discipline is considered as equally relevant to one-another in the emergence of transdisciplinary knowledge.
The posters are below (click to enlarge). The exhibition opens on the 12th of November, and is open to the public until the 27th. See the exhibition’s website for more information.
There high-resolution versions of these posters can be downloaded here as a pdf.
